The Dalai Lama, born Lhamo Thondup, is the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and the 14th Dalai Lama. He was born on July 6, 1935, in Taktser, Tibet. At the age of two, he was recognized as the reincarnation of his predecessor and enthroned as the spiritual leader of Tibet. In 1959, following the Chinese invasion of Tibet, he was forced into exile in India. Since then, he has dedicated his life to promoting peace, compassion, and the welfare of humanity. The Dalai Lama has received numerous awards and honors for his tireless efforts, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.
