JeanPaul Sartre, from the prefac Quotes
A collection of quotes by JeanPaul Sartre, from the prefac.
Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) was a French philosopher, novelist, and playwright, considered one of the most influential figures in 20th-century existentialism. Born in Paris, Sartre studied philosophy at the École Normale Supérieure, where he met Simone de Beauvoir, his lifelong partner. His major works, including "Being and Nothingness" and "Existentialism is a Humanism," explored themes of freedom, authenticity, and the individual's responsibility for creating meaning in a seemingly absurd world. Sartre also played an active role in political activism, advocating for Marxism and participating in the French Resistance during World War II.
