A collection of quotes by John Updike, "Christian Science .

John Updike was an American writer and literary critic, born on March 18, 1932, in Reading, Pennsylvania. He is considered one of the most prominent and prolific authors of the 20th century. Updike showed a keen literary talent from a young age and went on to study English at Harvard University, where he contributed to the Harvard Lampoon humor magazine.

After graduating in 1954, Updike embarked on a successful writing career, publishing his first book, "The Carpentered Hen and Other Tame Creatures" in 1958. He is best known for his novel series called the "Rabbit" tetralogy, which comprises four highly acclaimed books following the life of Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom.

Throughout his career, Updike received much recognition for his work, including two Pulitzer Prizes for Fiction, the first for "Rabbit Is Rich" in 1982 and the second for "Rabbit at Rest" in 1991. Updike's writing style was often characterized by his precise and detailed description of characters and their surroundings, as well as his exploration of middle-class American life and its existential concerns.

While Updike's religious background is widely known, he was not affiliated with the Christian Science religion. However, the influence of his Protestant upbringing, particularly its emphasis on morality and religious introspection, can be seen in his literary themes and explorations. Unfortunately, John Updike passed away on January 27, 2009, leaving behind a legacy of literary excellence and a considerable impact on American literature and culture.
