Lord John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, also known as Lord Acton, was a British historian, philosopher, and politician. Born in 1834, he was known for his advocacy of individual liberty and religious tolerance. Acton served as an MP (Member of Parliament) and was a prominent figure in politics during the 19th century. He also founded the influential English Historical Review and was appointed as the Regius Professor of Modern History at the University of Cambridge.
