Cecil Parkinson Quotes

A collection of quotes by Cecil Parkinson.

Cecil Parkinson (born on September 1, 1931, in Carnforth, England) was a prominent British Conservative politician and businessman. After completing his education at Cambridge University, where he studied Law, he became a successful businessman in the industrial and financial sectors.

Parkinson entered politics in the late 1960s and was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Enfield West in 1970. Known for his charisma and political acumen, he quickly rose through the ranks of the Conservative Party. In Margaret Thatcher's government, he held various ministerial positions, including Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and Secretary of State for Transport.

One of Parkinson's most challenging times in politics came in 1983 when he was appointed as the Chairman of the Conservative Party. However, his tenure was clouded by a personal scandal. In 1983, it was revealed that he had an extramarital affair that resulted in the birth of a child. Despite the controversy, he chose to stay on as an MP and played an influential role in the government.

After leaving politics in 1992, Parkinson continued his business career, serving on the boards of multiple companies. Additionally, he remained an active member of the House of Lords until his retirement in 2015. Parkinson passed away on January 22, 2016, at the age of 84.
