Laurel Clark (1961-2003) was an American astronaut and medical doctor. Born on March 10, 1961, in Ames, Iowa, Clark developed an early interest in space exploration and the sciences. She earned a bachelor's degree in zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983 and then received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the same university in 1987. Clark completed her residency in internal medicine and aerospace medicine and later served in various medical and teaching positions.

In 1996, Clark was selected as a candidate for the NASA Astronaut Corps. After years of intense training and preparation, she was chosen to be a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia for the ill-fated STS-107 mission. Tragically, on February 1, 2003, just sixteen minutes before their scheduled landing, the shuttle disintegrated upon reentry into the Earth's atmosphere, resulting in the loss of all seven crew members.
