Louis XVIII, born on November 17, 1755, was the king of France from 1814 until his death in 1824. As the younger brother of Louis XVI, he initially fled during the French Revolution and exiled to various European courts. Upon the fall of Napoleon Bonaparte, Louis XVIII was called back from exile to restore the Bourbon monarchy. He enacted the Charter of 1814, which introduced a constitutional monarchy in France.
