Lucan, also known as Marcus Annaeus Lucanus, was a Roman poet and philosopher born in Corduba, Hispania (modern-day Spain) in 39 AD. He is best known for his epic poem, "Pharsalia," which recounts the civil war between Julius Caesar and Pompey the Great. Lucan was highly regarded for his eloquent writing style and powerful rhetoric. However, his life was cut short when he was implicated in a conspiracy against Emperor Nero and forced to commit suicide in 65 AD.
