Rick Perry is an American politician who served as the 14th United States Secretary of Energy from 2017 to 2019. Born on March 4, 1950, in Haskell, Texas, Perry attended Texas A&M University where he earned a degree in animal science in 1972. After graduation, he served as an officer in the United States Air Force. Perry entered politics in the early 1980s when he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives as a Democrat. He later switched to the Republican Party and was elected Texas Agriculture Commissioner in 1990.

Perry first served as the Governor of Texas from 2000 to 2015, making him the longest-serving governor in Texas history. During his tenure, he focused on job creation, economic growth, and energy development. Perry promoted Texas as a business-friendly state, attracting numerous companies to relocate there.
