Roger Williams (theologian) Quotes

A collection of quotes by Roger Williams (theologian).

Roger Williams was a prominent theologian and an influential figure in early American history. Born in 1603, he immigrated from England to the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1631. Williams advocated for the separation of church and state, championing religious freedom and the rights of indigenous peoples. Due to his conflicts with the Puritan leaders, he was banished from the colony and went on to establish the settlement of Providence, Rhode Island. Williams founded the first Baptist church in America and his writings, including "The Bloudy Tenent of Persecution," greatly influenced the development of American principles of religious liberty.
