Thales Quotes

A collection of quotes by Thales.

Thales of Miletus (c. 624 – c. 546 BCE) was an ancient Greek philosopher, mathematician, and astronomer. Regarded as one of the Seven Sages of Greece, he is often considered the first philosopher in Western history. Thales was highly influential in various fields, pioneering the use of deductive reasoning in geometry and accurately predicting a solar eclipse. He believed that water was the primary substance from which everything in the universe derived and introduced the concept of a single underlying substance. Though few of his written works have survived, his ideas laid the foundation for philosophical and scientific inquiry in subsequent centuries.
