Thomas Becket Quotes

A collection of quotes by Thomas Becket.

Thomas Becket (1118-1170), also known as Saint Thomas of Canterbury, was an English archbishop and martyr. Born to humble parents, he rose through the ranks to become Chancellor to King Henry II. In 1162, he was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury, where he staunchly defended the rights and independence of the Church against the king's encroachment. This led to a fierce conflict between Henry and Becket, culminating in the archbishop's murder by royal knights in Canterbury Cathedral. His death elevated him to sainthood and made him a symbol of religious resistance against secular authority.
