when you don't create things, you become defined by your tastes rather than ability. your tastes only narrow
Maybe the best programmers aren't those who spectacularly solve crazy problems, but those who don't create them, which is much more silent.
These are thoughts that we can't think.
Ideas are very important to me.
Don't start with a class. Start with a protocol.
Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes.
If we can dispel the delusion that learning about computers should be an activity of fiddling with array indexes and worrying whether X is an integer or a real number, we can begin to focus on programming as a source of ideas.
Don't get suckered in by the comments ... they can terribly be misleading.
I speak BASIC to clients, 1-2-3 to management, and mumble to myself.
BASIC - A programming language.
As much as we like to think that we are independent-minded, free-willed, autonomous individuals, the fact remains that some part of us is still susceptible to programming.Programming can happen to anyone. Intelligence, education, common sense, belief, or convictions offer little protection. All it takes is repetition (the slow route) or vulnerability (the fast route) and, eventually, we're hooked. Master programmers - from cult leaders to cigarette companies to government agencies - do both, as often as possible, whether you like it or not.Ironically, the more immune to programming you think you are, the more susceptible you become.
There is the truth; everything else is a cache.
The secret to building large apps is never build large apps. Break your applications into small pieces. Then, assemble those testable, bite-sized pieces into your big application.
Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.
Bad programmers worry about the code. Good programmers worry about data structures and their relationships.
There are only two kinds of languages: the ones people complain about and the ones nobody uses.
Beware of programmers who carry screwdrivers.
Programming is like sex: one mistake and you have to support it for the rest of your life.
Real programmers don't comment their code. If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.
Old programmers never die. They just can't C as well.
