Berkeley Breathed is an American cartoonist, children's book author, and illustrator, best known for creating the popular comic strip "Bloom County." He was born on June 21, 1957, in Encino, California. Breathed developed an interest in cartooning at a young age and started drawing his own comic strips while still in high school.
After completing his education, Breathed began working as an editorial cartoonist for The Daily Texan while attending the University of Texas at Austin.
