He played as a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Bears, New York Bulldogs, Detroit Lions, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Layne is best known for his time with the Detroit Lions, where he led the team to three NFL championships in the 1950s. He was a talented and charismatic player, known for his strong arm and leadership skills. Layne was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1967. He passed away on December 1, 1986.
