Carl T. Rowan was an American journalist, author, and diplomat. Born on August 11, 1925, in Ravenscroft, Tennessee, Rowan became one of the first African-American reporters at major US newspapers, including the Minneapolis Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times. He gained national prominence as a columnist for The Washington Post, where he advocated for civil rights and social justice. Rowan also served as US Ambassador to Finland under President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1963 to 1964. Throughout his career, he remained a staunch advocate for racial equality and a prominent voice in American journalism. Rowan passed away on September 23, 2000.
