Daniel Keyes (1927-2014) was an American author best known for his novel "Flowers for Algernon." Born in Brooklyn, New York, Keyes served in the U.S. Maritime Service during World War II before attending Brooklyn College. He went on to earn a master's degree in English and American literature from Ohio University. Keyes worked as an editor and university professor, but it was his poignant and thought-provoking science fiction novel, "Flowers for Algernon," that brought him widespread acclaim. The book won the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1966 and was later adapted into a successful film.
