Franz von Papen Quotes
A collection of quotes by Franz von Papen.
Franz von Papen (1879-1969) was a German politician and diplomat who played a significant role in the Weimar Republic and during the rise of Adolf Hitler. Serving as the Chancellor of Germany from June to November 1932, Papen's conservative government struggled to address the challenges posed by the Great Depression. He later convinced President Hindenburg to appoint Hitler as Chancellor in 1933, hoping to control him. However, Papen's miscalculation led to the Nazis' consolidation of power, and he subsequently served as Hitler's Vice-Chancellor and Ambassador to Austria before falling from favor. After World War II, Papen was convicted of war crimes but was released in 1949.
