Georg Hermes (1775-1831) was a German philosopher and Catholic theologian. He was born on April 22, 1775, in Ahaus, Westphalia, and showed an early interest in religious studies and philosophy. He entered the Dominican order in 1791 and studied theology at Münster and Munster's Philosophical Institute.

Hermes became renowned for his revolutionary views on theology, particularly in relation to the interpretation of Scripture and the role of reason in understanding religious doctrine. He criticized the scholastic approach to theology and advocated for a more critical and historical study of the Bible.
