H. Rap Brown, also known as Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, is an American civil rights activist, religious leader, and former chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Born on October 4, 1943, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Brown emerged as a prominent figure during the 1960s civil rights movement.

Brown's activism began during his college years at Howard University, where he organized sit-ins and protests against racial segregation. In 1967, he was appointed chairman of SNCC, a position he held until 1968.
