Jerry Rubin Quotes
A collection of quotes by Jerry Rubin.
Jerry Rubin (1938-1994) was an American social activist, counterculture icon, and political leader. Born on July 14, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he rose to prominence during the 1960s as a prominent member of the countercultural movement known as the Yippies (Youth International Party).
Rubin became a leading figure in the anti-Vietnam War movement, advocating for peace, civil rights, and an end to the generation gap. With his charismatic and unconventional style, he often used theater and media spectacles to draw attention to his causes. Alongside fellow Yippie activists Abbie Hoffman and Paul Krassner, he organized a series of influential protests and happenings, such as the infamous protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
In the 1970s, Rubin underwent a transformation, shifting his focus towards personal development and self-improvement. He became an advocate for holistic living, ecology, and alternative spirituality. During this period, Rubin authored several bestselling books, including "Do It!" and "We Are Everywhere."
However, as the decades passed, Rubin's political influence waned, and he struggled to find success post-Yippie era. Tragically, Jerry Rubin died at the age of 56 on November 28, 1994, as a result of injuries sustained after being struck by a car while jaywalking in Los Angeles. Despite his later years being overshadowed by his earlier activism, Rubin remains an emblematic figure of the counterculture movement, remembered for his fervent and provocative approach to activism and social change.
