Jiang Qing, born on March 19, 1914, in Zhucheng, Shandong Province, China, was a prominent figure in 20th-century Chinese politics. She is best known as the wife of Chairman Mao Zedong, the leader of the Chinese Communist Party and founder of the People's Republic of China. Jiang Qing played a significant role in Chinese politics during the Cultural Revolution, a tumultuous period from 1966 to 1976.

Prior to her involvement in politics, Jiang Qing was an actress and member of the Shanghai Theatre Association. In the 1930s, she joined the Communist Party and married Mao Zedong in 1938. With her charisma and strong personality, Jiang Qing rose to prominence as an influential figure within the Communist Party.

During the Cultural Revolution, Jiang Qing became the leading figure of the radical left-wing faction known as the "Gang of Four." She exerted considerable influence over cultural, artistic, and political affairs, promoting ideologies aligned with Mao's vision. However, following Mao's death in 1976, Jiang Qing and the Gang of Four were arrested and subsequently tried for their role in the political turmoil and excesses of the Cultural Revolution.

Jiang Qing stood trial in 1980 and was found guilty of numerous crimes, including counter-revolutionary activities. In 1983, she was sentenced to death, but her sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment. Tragically, on May 14, 1991, Jiang Qing passed away by suicide in her prison cell at the age of 77.
