Jim Bunning (1931-2017) was an American professional baseball player and politician. Born in Southgate, Kentucky, Bunning excelled in both baseball and basketball during his youth. He attended Xavier University on a basketball scholarship but later focused on his passion for baseball.
Bunning began his professional career in 1955 with the Detroit Tigers as a right-handed pitcher. During his 17-season career in Major League Baseball, he played for the Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
