John N. Mitchell was an American attorney and political figure, born on September 15, 1913, in Detroit, Michigan. He served as the United States Attorney General from 1969 to 1972 under President Richard Nixon. Mitchell played a prominent role in Nixon's administration and was instrumental in implementing the president's "law and order" agenda. However, he ultimately became entangled in the Watergate scandal and was convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury in 1975. Mitchell served 19 months in federal prison before his release in 1979. He passed away on November 9, 1988.
