Lady Bird Johnson, born Claudia Alta Taylor, was the First Lady of the United States from 1963 to 1969. She was a passionate advocate for environmental conservation and played a vital role in the beautification of Washington, D.C., and the Highway Beautification Act. Lady Bird was also instrumental in promoting the Head Start Program and the creation of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). In addition to her public service, she founded the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center to protect and preserve native plants in Texas.
