Lao Tzu, also known as Laozi, was an ancient Chinese philosopher and writer who left a significant impact on the development of Taoism. Born in the 6th century BCE, his exact details and background remain shrouded in uncertainty. Nevertheless, Lao Tzu is popularly credited as the author of the foundational text of Taoism, the "Tao Te Ching."

According to legends, Lao Tzu served as a record-keeper in the imperial court of Zhou Dynasty.
