Lord John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, commonly known as Lord Acton, was a prominent British historian and moralist of the 19th century. Born on January 10, 1834, in Naples, Italy, he was educated in England and Germany. Acton served as a Member of Parliament and was appointed as the Regius Professor of Modern History at the University of Cambridge. He is best remembered for his famous quote, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
