Harmon comes from an artistic family, with his father being football player Tom Harmon and his mother being actress Elyse Knox. Following in his father's footsteps, he initially pursued a career in football, first as a quarterback at UCLA and then briefly in the NFL, playing for the New England Patriots. However, a knee injury put an end to his football career and he shifted his focus towards acting.
