Olivia Goldsmith was an American author known for her best-selling novel "The First Wives Club." Born on January 1, 1949, in Dumont, New Jersey, she was raised in New York City. She attended New York University and later graduated from the City College of New York with a degree in creative writing.

Goldsmith started her career as a freelance writer, contributing to various magazines and newspapers. However, it was her debut novel "The First Wives Club," published in 1992, that brought her widespread recognition and success. The book was a comedic tale of three divorced women seeking revenge on their ex-husbands and was later adapted into a popular film starring Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton.
