Silvan Shalom is an Israeli politician who served in various governmental positions throughout his career. Born on August 4, 1958, in Tunisia, Shalom immigrated to Israel with his family in 1959. He grew up in an immigrant neighborhood in Kiryat Gat and later studied economics and accounting at Bar-Ilan University.

Shalom entered politics in the 1980s as a member of the right-wing Likud party. He was elected to the Knesset (Israeli parliament) in 1992 and went on to hold various ministerial positions, including Minister of Science, Technology, and Space, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Foreign Affairs. He also served as Deputy Prime Minister under Prime Ministers Ariel Sharon, Ehud Olmert, and Benjamin Netanyahu.
