Bede Griffiths (1906-1993) was a British Benedictine monk who became a leading figure in the dialogue between Christianity and Hinduism. Born Alan Richard Griffiths in England, he entered the Benedictine Order in 1931. In 1955, he moved to India and lived at Shantivanam, a Christian ashram he established in the town of Tiruchirappalli. Inspired by the teachings of Hindu spirituality, Griffiths promoted interreligious understanding and emphasized the unity of all religions.
