Colley Cibber (1671-1757) was an English actor, playwright and poet. He is best known for his work as a comic actor and the manager of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London. Cibber's most successful play, "Love's Last Shift" (1696), propelled him to fame. He also wrote several adaptations of Shakespearean plays. However, his artistic talents were often ridiculed by contemporary literary figures. Despite this, Cibber remained a prominent figure in the theatrical scene during the 18th century and was appointed as the Poet Laureate of England in 1730.
