Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915) was an influential American writer, publisher, and philosopher. Born in Bloomington, Illinois, Hubbard grew up in a family with a passion for learning and literature. He started his career in the publishing industry, working as a salesman and later becoming a partner in a firm that produced soap. However, Hubbard's true calling was writing and self-improvement.

In 1895, he founded the Roycroft artisan community in East Aurora, New York, which eventually grew to be a well-known center for the arts and crafts movement. Hubbard gained recognition for his writings, particularly his collection of essays known as "Little Journeys to the Homes of the Great." These essays explored the lives of influential people throughout history.
