Erich Segal (1937-2010) was an American author, screenwriter, and educator. He is best known for his highly popular novel "Love Story" (1970), which became a successful film adaptation and turned him into a literary sensation. Born in New York City, Segal attended Harvard University and obtained his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Yale University. He went on to teach at various universities and became a professor of Classics at Yale. Apart from romance novels, Segal wrote numerous screenplays, including the film adaptation of "Love Story." He continued to write and lecture until his death in 2010.
