Hyrum Smith Quotes
A collection of quotes by Hyrum Smith.
Hyrum Smith (1800-1844) was an influential figure in the early history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), also known as the Mormon Church. He was born on February 9, 1800, in Tunbridge, Vermont, to Joseph Smith Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith. Hyrum was the older brother of Joseph Smith Jr., the founder of the LDS Church.
Hyrum played a significant role in the development and growth of the church. He became one of the first members of the LDS Church and, alongside his brother, received visions and revelations that formed the foundation of the church's beliefs. Hyrum served as a trusted advisor to Joseph and was known for his integrity, courage, and dedication to the faith.
In addition to his religious leadership, Hyrum was actively involved in the political and social aspects of his community. He served as a merchant, farmer, and postmaster, contributing to the economic development of Kirtland, Ohio, and Nauvoo, Illinois, where the church had settlements.
Tragically, Hyrum Smith was martyred on June 27, 1844, alongside his brother Joseph, in Carthage, Illinois. They were both shot to death while being held in a local jail, targeted by a mob that opposed their religious teachings.
Hyrum Smith is remembered as a faithful and steadfast individual who made significant contributions to the early growth of the LDS Church. His sacrifice, along with his brother's, continues to be celebrated by Latter-day Saints around the world.
