Jim Garrison Quotes
A collection of quotes by Jim Garrison.
Jim Garrison (1921-1992) was an American attorney and politician who gained national attention for his role as the New Orleans District Attorney, particularly for his investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Born in Iowa, Garrison served in the U.S. Army during World War II before attending law school. After moving to New Orleans, he became an assistant district attorney and later won the election for District Attorney in 1962.
Garrison shot to fame in 1967 when he brought charges against New Orleans businessman Clay Shaw, alleging that Shaw was involved in a conspiracy to assassinate Kennedy. Garrison's investigation drew significant media coverage and was depicted in Oliver Stone's film "JFK" (1991), although his theories were highly controversial. Ultimately, Shaw was acquitted of the charges.
Throughout his career, Garrison faced criticism for his unorthodox methods and conspiracy theories. Some accused him of using his position for personal and political gain rather than pursuing justice. Despite the controversy surrounding his work on the Kennedy assassination, Garrison was respected for his staunch defense of civil rights, frequently clashing with segregationists in Louisiana.
After leaving the District Attorney's Office in 1973, Garrison ventured into writing and lecturing. He published several books, including "On the Trail of the Assassins" (1988), in which he detailed his alternative theory of Kennedy's assassination. Jim Garrison passed away in 1992, leaving behind a mixed legacy of both admiration and skepticism.
