Kurt Student (1890-1978) was a German air force general during World War II. He is best known as the founder and commanding officer of the first airborne division in military history, the German Fallschirmjäger. Student played a significant role in the Battle of Crete in 1941, leading the invasion by using paratroopers to capture key strategic positions. He later served on the Eastern and Western Fronts, overseeing multiple airborne operations. After the war, Student was captured by the British and held as a prisoner until 1948.
