Laura Bush, born Laura Lane Welch on November 4, 1946, is an American educator, librarian, and former First Lady of the United States. She was born in Midland, Texas, to a loving family and grew up as an only child. Laura earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Southern Methodist University and later a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

In 1977, Laura met George W. Bush, and they got married the following year. They have twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna. Throughout her life, Laura was deeply involved in education and literacy initiatives.
