James John Walker, commonly known as Jimmy Walker, was an American politician who served as the mayor of New York City from 1926 to 1932. He was born on June 19, 1881, in New York City. Walker attended St. Joseph's Parochial School and later graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy. He then pursued a career in law and was admitted to the bar in 1902.

Walker began his political career as a member of the New York State Assembly, where he served from 1909 to 1915. Later, he represented Manhattan's 18th district in the U.S. Congress from 1915 to 1926, gaining a reputation for his charismatic and flamboyant personality.
