Molinos, also known as Miguel de Molinos, was a Spanish Catholic priest and mystic in the 17th century. He was born in Muniesa, Spain, in the year 1628. Not much is known about his early life and education, and there are conflicting accounts surrounding his background.

Molinos gained significant recognition for his religious teachings, particularly for his ideas regarding spiritual guidance and the attainment of inner prayer and contemplation. He proposed a form of silent prayer known as "quietism," which advocated for a direct relationship between the individual and God, without the need for intermediaries or external rituals. Molinos believed that true spiritual progress could be achieved through the practice of self-denial and abandonment of personal desires.

His ideas quickly gained a following, attracting many adherents, including influential individuals within the Catholic Church. However, Molinos' teachings were not without controversy. In 1685, his writings were scrutinized by the Inquisition, and in 1687, he was arrested and accused of heresy.

Following a two-year trial, Molinos was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. He spent the remainder of his days in the dungeons of the Roman Inquisition, where he passed away in 1696.
