Moses Quotes

A collection of quotes by Moses.

Moses was a prominent figure in biblical history and is revered as a prophet by three major religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Born in Egypt during a time when the Pharaoh decreed that all Hebrew male infants be killed, Moses' mother hid him in a basket and set him adrift on the Nile River. The basket was discovered by Pharaoh's daughter who raised Moses as her own.

As a young man, Moses was troubled by the oppression and suffering of his fellow Hebrews, prompting him to flee into the wilderness. It was there, on Mount Sinai, that he encountered God in the form of a burning bush and received a divine calling to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt.

Returning to Egypt, Moses confronted Pharaoh, demanding the release of his people. When Pharaoh repeatedly refused, God unleashed a series of ten plagues upon Egypt, culminating in the death of the firstborn children. Finally relenting, Pharaoh allowed Moses and the Israelites to leave.

Under Moses' leadership, the Israelites embarked on a journey through the desert known as the Exodus. During this time, Moses received the Ten Commandments and other laws from God, which formed the foundation of Jewish religious and ethical traditions. Despite many trials and tribulations, Moses guided his people to the borders of the Promised Land, which he himself was not permitted to enter. Moses died on Mount Nebo, overlooking the land that his people were destined to inhabit.
