Nicholas Rowe (1674-1718) was an English poet and playwright. He is best known for his work as a playwright, with his most famous play being "The Fair Penitent" (1703). Rowe also served as the Poet Laureate of England from 1715 until his death. He was highly regarded for his poetic skill and was a prominent figure in the Augustan Age of English literature. Additionally, Rowe made significant contributions to the study of Shakespeare, editing and publishing the first critical edition of his works in 1709.
